CHRISTmas at the Genesee County Jail

Christmas is a time of joy and giving. Here in the jail inmates experience a time of depression, sadness and loneliness. The jail ministry pulls together an assortment of ministries throughout the Christmas season. South Baptist Church on Van Slyke comes bearing gifts of homemade brownies and ice cream and share Christmas joy through caroling and distributing gospel tracts. This is a yearly event and an excellent outreach of His love.

Christmas Cards

First Presbyterian Church (downtown Flint) graciously provides the stamps for Christmas cards we purchase. The ministry provides 2 Christmas cards per inmate to send to loved ones. The cards are purchased for 3 cents each from American Rehabilitaion Ministries. The inmates really appreciate this ministry as well.

Each year an appeal letter is mailed out by the jail chaplain, co-signed by our sheriff, and sent to ministry supporters and Genesee County churches. Donations are requested to purchase items that are placed in a specially decorated gift bags. Children from local churches were previously asked to hand decorate these bags. Associates give of their time to stuff the bags and then to distribute them to inmates. Our goal to to encourage inmates and share the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of our Savior!
Thank you to our faithful supporters and local churches that enable this ministry to happen.
